Based on the latest guidelines from Resolución 5477 (July 2022) by Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, here’s what you need to know:
✅ Who Can Apply?
You’re eligible if you:
- ✈️ Hold a passport from a country exempt from Colombia’s short-stay visa.
- 💻 Work remotely for a foreign company (employee, freelancer, or business owner).
- 🕐 Plan to stay in Colombia for more than 180 days.
- 💰 Earn at least 3x the Colombian minimum wage (~$1,000 USD/month) for the last 3 months.
📄 What Documents Are Required?
- Valid Passport (minimum 6 months before expiration).
- Passport Copy (first page, black and white preferred).
- Passport Photo (3×4 cm, white background, JPG format, max 300kb).
- Proof of Legal Entry (most recent Colombia entry or exit stamp).
- Letter from a Foreign Company:
- Explains your work relationship, payment, and remote status.
- Can be in English or Spanish.
- If you’re a freelancer or business owner, include proof of ownership or contracts.
- Entrepreneur? Include a motivational letter describing your startup or venture in Colombia.
- Bank Statements (last 3 months showing $1,000+ income).
- Health Insurance covering your stay in Colombia (accidents, illness, hospitalization, maternity, disability, death, or repatriation).
- A crime record with Apostille stamp from whichever country you have lived in for the past 3 years.
